This week, the activist conservative Supreme Court allowed Michigan Republicans to rig elections through blatant, partisan gerrymandering. The Court already gutted the Voting Rights Act and invited unlimited dark money to flood our politics. This ruling is yet more proof that the Court—which Mitch McConnell effectively packed when he stole a seat against the will of voters—is a threat to our most fundamental values, and to American democracy itself. Four of the five Republican justices were appointed by presidents who took office despite losing the popular vote. Now those justices are further enabling white minority rule, and they’re poised to strike down any progressive legislation including climate action, LGBT rights, gun safety, immigration reform, voting, and reproductive freedom.
So why don’t leading Democrats like Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have a plan to reform the Court?
